Baptism & Marriage
Weddings
St John's is a popular church for weddings and we are always happy to chat with you about what getting married in church involves. If you live in our parish or have a strong family link with the church then this is usually quite thenceforward. If you live outside our parish you may have to join the couples who come to church for a bit in order to establish a connection. In the first instance please come along to our Parish office in the Church Hall on Tuesday between 7-8pm when our Parish Clerk Mrs Susan Jones can discuss dates, costs and administration or alternatively call the vicar if your thinking is at an earlier stage. As you consider getting married in Church the website yourchurchwedding.org has lots of useful information and can even help you start to plan your service. If you do live a little way away you might consider getting married in your parish church. You can locate your local church using achurchnearyou.org.
Many people book their wedding a long way ahead so as the day approaches we will ask you to come to church to discuss, music, choir, flowers and so on. You can also take part in marriage preparation workshops organised by Relate. These are professionally delivered sessions provided especially for couples being married in churches in this area.
Baptisms
Baptism (Christening) takes place in St John's on the second and third Sundays of most months at 12 noon. These are important and joyful occasions which are often booked up a little way ahead. A visit to our parish office is the simplest way to book a Baptism and Scott will help you get ready for the day by visiting you to talk through the service. The best way to prepare for Baptism is to come to Church and many families find that our Family Service or Toddler Church is an easier way in with young children.
